Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training.
What You’ll Do
Sitar Arts Center is seeking a wonderful, experienced Dance Teacher and Choreographer for our summer camp and summer musical, The Addams Family: School Edition, this June – August 2025.
As the Dance Teacher, you will work directly with students in Kindergarten - 8th grade engaging them through a combination of dance, creative movement, physical fitness and/or activities and games. You will also choreograph our summer musical with students and interns in 4th to 12th grade.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and teach engaging dance and movement classes for students from K – 8th grades across multiple styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary).
- Work collaboratively with the director to choreograph a full-scale musical production.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students, helping them develop their technical skills, artistry, and confidence.
- Work as a team with teachers and staff to coordinate and participate in all camp activities, field trips, and students showcases/exhibitions.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters creativity and teamwork.
What You’ll Earn
Pay is hourly, $26-$30 per hour for the morning summer camp teaching portion, based on experience. There is a $3,000 stipend for the afternoon choreography of the summer musical.
When You'll Work
This six-week position is full-time seasonal starting June 23, 2025 with a daily schedule of 8:30 am–4:30 pm. Other Required Work Dates will be provided before employment acceptance. All required work dates are paid including:
- Restorative Practices and Classroom Management Training
- Camp Orientation
- Saturday tech rehearsals
- Performance days

As the Dance Teacher and Choreographer, you are a positive, inclusive role model who is warm, supportive, and engaging. You enjoy collaboration and improvisation and believe strong organization and creative youth development is the key to happy and engaged students. Most importantly you have a strong love for the arts and children and believe that everyone should have access to the arts.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of dance teaching experience.
- Experience building curriculum for grades K – 8th.
- Previous experience working with youth.
- Experience choreographing for dance recitals, competitions, or other performances.
- A demonstrated ability to choreograph a full-scale musical production is a major plus.
- Prior experience working in a camp setting is highly desirable.
