SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR (Multiple Positions Available)
What We Do
Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training.
What You’ll Do
Sitar Arts Center is seeking wonderful, experienced Camp Counselors to work with a range of young people to support Camp Sitar this June – August 2025.
Camp Sitar provides visual, performing, digital art, and movement classes over six weeks to kindergarten - 8th graders in our full-day program.
Camp Counselors ensure that students are engaged in weekly camp activities and field trips and help get them in the summer spirit. Camp Counselors have daily opportunities to engage outdoors, support classes, encourage positive student behavior and lead camp activities.
Camp Counselors play an important role in making the summer an amazing experience for each Sitar Camper. As a Camp Counselor, you will work directly with children grades K – 8th, teaching artists, youth interns, parents and Sitar staff members.
Responsibilities Include
- Assist with pre/post camp preparation, planning, storage, and cleaning.
- Work as a team with teachers and staff to coordinate and participate in all camp activities, field trips, and students showcases/exhibitions.
- Supervise and ensure camp students' safety during camp time, in and outside of classes, mealtimes, activities, transitions and during outside play.
- Work in Aftercare leading small group activities.
What You’ll Earn
Pay is hourly, $18 - $22 per hour, based on experience.
When You'll Work
The Camp Counselor positions available will work for 30 - 40 hours per week for 8-9 weeks between June 9 – August 6, 2025. Work hours will be scheduled between 8:00am - 6:30pm depending on staffing needs. Pre/Post Camp hours will be 10:00 am - 6:30 pm. Camp Program Dates are June 23 - August 1, 2025.
Other Required Work Dates will be provided before employment acceptance. All required work dates are paid including:
- Restorative Practices and Classroom Management Training
- Camp Orientation
Who You Are
As a Camp Counselor, you are a positive, inclusive role model who is warm, supportive, and engaging. You experience immense joy working with young people, meeting their needs and adapting to ensure their safety and success. You enjoy collaboration and improvisation and believe strong organization and creative youth development is the key to happy and engaged students. Most importantly you have a strong love for the arts, a strong love for children of all ages, and believe that everyone should have access to the arts.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum High School Diploma and/or Pursuing College Degree. (18 years)
- Interest and/or experience in arts and/or arts education.
- Two or more years of experience working with children & youth.
- Previous experience working in a camp setting.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Bilingual- Spanish/English
- Knowledge, practice, and experience with differentiated instruction, equity, accessibility, and anti-racism
