Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Generator Technician to support operations at cell tower sites. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair or replacement of fixed generators and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS). The technician will also be responsible for the deployment and retrieval of portable generators to ensure continuous power during outages or service intervals.
This is a field-based role requiring independent work in remote and unmanned environments, with occasional on-call and emergency response duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel and propane/natural gas generators located at cell tower sites.
- Troubleshoot and repair generator-related issues including fuel systems, batteries, charging systems, and control panels.
- Inspect, service, and replace or repair Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) to ensure reliable power switching between utility and generator power.
- Deploy and retrieve portable generators as needed for temporary power support at telecom sites.
- Monitor generator performance and log readings such as voltage, frequency, and run-time hours.
- On-Call Availability: Being available to respond quickly to alarms or system failures is usually a must.
- Respond to emergency outages or site alarms with timely troubleshooting and generator support.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and generator movements.
- Work independently in the field, often in remote locations or under adverse weather conditions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and environmental regulations regarding fuel handling and site protocols.
- Communicate with dispatch and operations teams regarding service updates and issues found.
- Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out of season equipment
- Conducting performance checks and regular maintenance to ensure proper readiness.
- Read and follow blueprints or other design specifications to install or repair.
- Install electrical wiring and controls and test for proper operation.
- Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, and other components.
- Connect electrical wiring.
- Use care to conserve, recover, and recycle the oil or fuel filters and other fluids.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repair with other Generator Service Technicians.
- Work independently with minimum or no supervision.
- Perform work with the awareness of all potential hazards connected with the installation and maintenance of power supply equipment, switching gear, and other equipment, including but not limited to falls, electric shock, falling objects, and traffic; use safety equipment and utilize safety practices; attend and participate in all designated safety and training meetings.
- Comply with all specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies and procedures.
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of and experience with Cummins, Kohler, Generac, or similar generator systems.
- Familiarity with ATS units and their installation or configuration.
- Previous experience supporting telecommunications or critical infrastructure sites is highly desirable.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or generator certification preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in generator maintenance and repair.
- Minimum of one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes is preferred
- Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance is preferred Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair of Generators; knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components; familiarity with solar panels, moderate computer skills; basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations.
- Strong understanding of generator systems, electrical safety, and transfer switch operation.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL is a plus.
- Must be able to travel to various site locations and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Comfortable working independently in field-based environments.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and operate light equipment (e.g., trailer hitches, winches, fuel pumps).

Pay: $25.96 - $28.14 per hour
