Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator specializing in operating excavators for trenching. The ideal candidate will be responsible for digging accurate and efficient trenches for utilities, pipelines, or foundations while ensuring site safety and adherence to project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Digging Trenches: Dig, backfill, and grade trenches of the required depth and width to lay electrical conduits or cables.
- Precision Work: The operator ensures trenches are straight and properly aligned to match project specifications for efficient cable installation.
- Trench refinement: Smoothing and leveling the bottom of the trench and grading for drainage.
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and specifications to determine trench dimensions, depth, and alignment.
- Inspect and maintain the excavator daily to ensure safe, reliable, and optimal performance.
- Safely maneuver the excavator in confined spaces and on challenging terrains.
- Work in various environmental conditions while maintaining precision and quality.
- Safely load and unload the excavator for transport between job sites.
- Collaborate with other crew members and maintain clear communication to ensure efficient project execution.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Ensure trenches comply with safety and structural requirements, such as shoring, sloping, and depth accuracy.
- Promptly report equipment malfunctions, potential hazards, or site issues to the supervisor.
- Assist with other duties and tasks as assigned by the project team.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience operating excavators for trenching and other heavy equipment applications.
- Strong understanding of trench safety standards, including shoring and sloping techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to regulations.
- Physical ability to operate machinery for extended periods and perform manual labor when required.
- Valid heavy equipment operator certification or license (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
Work Environment
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, heavy equipment vibrations, and construction-related dust.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring stamina and mobility.
Compensation: TBD based on experience and qualifications.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.73 - $28.00 per hour
