Position Overview
As part of our dedicated team, the Grinder Operator is a dual role responsible for operating Tub Grinders and Horizontal Grinders as well as the heavy equipment used to feed raw materials into the machines. The Grinder Operator performs assigned tasks while maintaining extreme situational awareness and a high level of proficiency that minimizes the risk of personal injury, injury to others, and property damage.
What you’ll do:
- Operate Tub Grinders and Horizontal Grinders that process raw materials such as trees, logs, and brush into mulch, as well as other heavy equipment such as rubber tire wheel loaders, excavators, and dozers, in a safe and proficient manner in accordance with company’s policies, procedures, and directives.
- Monitor the operation of the grinder at all times while in use and respond promptly to any indications that the machine is not working as intended. This requires constant situational awareness, extreme vigilance, and attention to detail. Operators must be prepared to promptly turn off the machine or follow other protocol as directed in the event of a mechanical failure.
- Clean and maintain equipment as scheduled and/or required.
- Advise branch leadership of any requirements for equipment maintenance and/or repairs.
- Assist with other duties assigned by management. Such duties may include (but are not limited to): receiving raw materials, operating light equipment such as forklifts and small loaders, cleaning of the yard, and customer service.

Skills We Are Seeking
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as rubber tire wheel loaders, excavators, and dozers required
- Experience working with land clearing crews, horizontal grinders or tub grinders strongly preferred
- Knowledge of proper safety and maintenance protocols of heavy equipment
- Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds or more
- Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, snow, rain, etc.
- Must be willing to work Saturdays
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed, especially during Peak Season of February-May
- Experience in land clearing or mulch production a plus
- Bilingual Spanish fluency also a plus (not required)
