HEAVY CIVIL SITE SUPERINTENDENT:
The Superintendent provides day to day oversight and direction to the foremen and field personnel assigned to on-site construction projects. He or she is for protecting and promoting the interests and values of the company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop project timelines, coordinating with project managers and engineers, and ensuring resources (labor, equipment, materials) are available to meet deadlines.
Site Supervision: Manage daily operations on the construction site, ensuring work adheres to project plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Monitor the quality of work, ensuring it meets design standards, and address any defects or deviations. Understand and apply the requirements in project documents with regard to quality control procedures such as testing, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, mock-ups, execution of the work, etc.
Maintain accurate records of progress, labor hours, material usage, and safety incidents, and provide regular updates to project managers or clients.
Oversee the installation, maintenance, or relocation of utilities and ensure minimal disruption to existing services. Identify and resolve issues related to construction challenges, weather delays, equipment failures, or unforeseen site conditions.
Become familiar with each job estimate for general condition items and follow the direction of the Project Manager with regard to performing work within the boundaries of the estimate.
Keep the Project Manager and Operations Manager apprised of any change in activity or cost prior to incurring additional time or materials outside of the project scope.
Provide input on scheduling and placement of production crews. Plan and review the construction project with the Operations Manager, Logistics Manager, and Project Manager on a weekly basis.
Assist the Project Manager and Operations Manager in the preparation of progress schedules, keep them properly updated, and ensure that everything feasible is done for the project to meet the required dates. Track project costs, manage expenses, and ensure the project stays within budget while avoiding unnecessary delays or overruns.
Support the Operations and Logistics Managers to ensure timely on-site delivery of materials and equipment furnished by the Company and subcontractors.
Team Management to include supervising and directing construction crews, subcontractors, and other personnel, including assigning tasks and resolving conflicts. Direct and train the foremen and field staff to ensure their continued development by use of performance evaluations, varying assignments, and promoting positive project morale.
Enforce safety protocols, conduct site inspections, and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards to minimize risks.
Communicate with clients, engineers, architects, and local authorities to address concerns, obtain permits, and ensure alignment with project goals.
Job Description SUPERINTENDENT:
Experience and Essential Skills Required:
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ of heavy civil site construction experience, including Utilities and mas Earth Moving with at least two of those years being in charge of the project.
- Experience must include work with storm drainage, sanitary sewer and water installation, use of trench boxes, hydraulic shoring and all aspects of trench safety.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
