Position begins 2025-2026 school year.


Salary Schedule is based on the 2025-2026 school year.
New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule. The Siuslaw School District allows step credit the salary scale for years of certified teaching experience.


This is a 10-month position, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.


All offers of employment are contingent upon board approval and the applicant’s satisfactory completion of a drug screening test

TITLE:
Teacher, Physical Education/Health or Health, Certified, 1.0 FTE , Siuslaw High School


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Conducts physical education and/or health classes as designated by the school district.


RESPONSIBLE TO:
Building Principal or Designee.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Oregon Teaching Certificate valid for assignment
  • Knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction
  • Familiarity with Common Core State Standards
  • Experience with multi-age planning and instruction

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITITES:

  • Establishes and maintains an orderly and supportive classroom environment where students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
  • Maintains a physical environment conducive to learning.
  • Plans a program of study designed to meet District goals and the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Teaches activities that will improve the physical, mental, social, and emotional health of the students.
  • Presents materials and activities in a positive manner so that students are motivated to lead healthy and active lives.
  • Reports to students the latest facts relating to health topics being taught.
  • Participates cooperatively on school, area, and district-wide health activities.
  • Ensures that health media equipment is properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
  • Provides time in each unit for instruction, skill practice, and supervised activity.
  • Establishes unit plans that provide for a progression from simple to more difficult skills.
  • Manages the locker room before and after the activity period.
  • Teaches rules and strategies in each sport.
  • Dresses appropriately for the activities being presented.
  • Maintains all students within sight during the class period.
  • Provides time for cardiovascular development in each of the units.
  • Provides coeducational opportunities.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by law and by District policy.
  • Uses a district approved grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable.
  • Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Upon request, advises in the selection of equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and department staff meetings.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with classified staff, certificated staff, and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
  • Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with building administrators and staff__cooperating to resolve problems in a professional manner so that the concerns of all parties are considered.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Achieves professional growth through attendance at workshops and consultation with District support staff at building and District in-service meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to organize and maintain efficient time schedule.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and the public.
  • Good communication, organization and computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task, except For temporary disability.
  • Effective and strong oral/written communication skills in order to work collaboratively with a variety of school personnel, as well as parents of students with disabilities and/or unique needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a wide variety of locations, including office and school environments.
  • May work with high stress student, family, or personnel situations.
  • May require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Involves sitting, walking, and attendance at evening and weekend meetings.
  • Requires the use of computers, office equipment, and driving personal vehicle.

MINIMUM TERM OF EMPLOYEMENT: Teacher Contract.


SALARY LEVEL: Placement on Teacher Salary Schedule.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
