What are the responsibilities and job description for the MANAGING EDITOR position at Six Rivers Media?
Six Rivers Media, LLC, a family-owned news organization serving Northeast Tennessee, seeks a Managing Editor for The Tomahawk, a weekly newspaper in Mountain City.
We are looking for a thoughtful, dedicated leader to lead coverage from breaking news to engaging features in a picturesque community near the North Carolina border.
We are firmly committed to our printed newspaper. We care about both our subscriber audiences in print and online.
We need an editor who can lead, inspire and help grow local journalism. This editor needs to collaborate with colleagues at two other weekly newspapers in Jonesborough and Erwin and two daily newspapers in Johnson City and Kingsport.
Responsibilities include planning, assigning, reporting, writing, taking photographs and shooting video. This editor needs to edit stories for taste, grammar and libel.
We expect this editor to monitor and stay ahead of the competition.
This editor needs to work closely with other SRM managers to make coverage decisions based on our goals and priorities. These leaders need to use digital tools to monitor audience interest in stories and to boost readership.

- Generate story ideas to entertain and engage our audience -Identify, cultivate and develop sources within the community and region
- Knowledge of AP style
Applicants with a bachelor's degree in journalism or communications are highly prized.
