Siyan Clinical Research (SCR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the biopsychosocial treatment of psychiatric disorders and improving the quality of psychiatric care. Our mission is to bridge the gap between innovative research and effective treatment, empowering individuals and communities to thrive.
This is a volunteer on-site position for a Nonprofit Board Member, responsible for guiding SCR’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with its mission, and providing oversight to maintain organizational integrity. As the governing body, the Board fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities and drives SCR’s vision forward.Role Overview
As a Board Member, you will contribute to the organization's success by:
- Defining and upholding SCR’s mission and purpose.
- Selecting and evaluating the CEO/Executive Director.
- Participating in strategic and organizational planning.
- Ensuring robust financial management and fiduciary oversight.
- Supporting fundraising efforts and resource development initiatives.
- Approving and monitoring SCR’s programs and services.
- Enhancing SCR’s visibility and public image.
- Regularly assessing the Board’s performance as the organization’s leadership body.
Expectations of Individual Board Members
Each Board Member is expected to:
- Understand and support SCR’s mission, policies, programs, and needs.
- Review and comprehend the organization’s financial reports.
- Act as an advocate and ambassador, actively securing financial resources and partnerships to further SCR’s mission.
- Utilize personal and professional networks to advance the organization’s fundraising and reputation.
- Identify opportunities to influence public policy in alignment with SCR’s mission.
- Prepare for, attend, and actively engage in Board meetings.
- Optionally participate in one or more committees to support SCR’s initiatives.
- Follow SCR’s bylaws, policies, and Board resolutions.
- Complete an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it as needed throughout the year.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding internal matters.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess the following:
- Experience in leadership or governance roles.
- Knowledge of psychiatric care, mental health treatment, or related fields.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Understanding of nonprofit operations and governance.
- Commitment to SCR’s mission, values, and goals.
- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or resource development (preferred).
- An advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work) is a plus.
Compensation and Time Commitment
Compensation: $200/month stipend.
Meetings: Quarterly Board meetings (mandatory).
Additional Work (Optional): Periodically, the Board may assign optional tasks or special projects, which are compensated at $50/hour upon prior approval by the Board.
