JOB SUMMARY:
Sizer School, a North Central Charter Essential School, is seeking a driven, dynamic, and experienced History teacher to be a part of the high school instructional team. This teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that supports students in the development of research and inquiry skills that support the study of the past; and the development of an understanding and appreciation of the forces and influences that impact the course of events in human history. This candidate will bring a passion for supporting and implementing best instructional practices, wrap around student support services, and a commitment to further promote an already existing positive collaborative environment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Teaches course sections of US History I and II, World History, Human Geography, and World Cultures.
● Demonstrates strong knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
● Promotes the learning and growth of all students by providing high-quality and coherent instruction.
● Designs standards-based units of instruction and lesson plans with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks.
● Demonstrates instructional and management practices that establish high expectations and create a safe and effective classroom environment.
● Adapts instruction, materials, and assessments to make challenging material accessible to all students, including English learners and students with disabilities.
● Acts as an advisor to a group of students and works to shape curriculum and practice to support the whole student.
● Reflects on the effectiveness of lessons, units, and interactions with students, both individually and with colleagues, and uses insights gained to improve practice and student learning.
● Participates in school-wide and subject specific professional development and grade level team meetings.
● Promotes the learning and growth of all students through culturally proficient, skilled, and collaborative practice.
● Utilizes informal and formal assessment methods to measure student learning and growth.
● Utilizes data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and identify students in need of targeted instruction/interventions.
● Motivates and engages students and promotes opportunities for students to generate understanding on their own through real world applications.
● Uses inclusive instructional practices to account for differences in students’ learning needs.
● Sets and upholds high standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
