Job Summary
The Assistant Nurse Manager works closely in collaboration with the nurse manager to facilitate quality improvement, employee engagement, adequate resources, and patient satisfaction. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible on a 24/7 basis for daily clinical and administrative operation of designated departments. This includes clinical oversight, staffing, scheduling, performance management, educational planning, and maintenance of budgeting staffing standards. This position provides services for adult patients. Interacts directly with physicians in a collaborative effort to facilitate best practice.
Essential Functions
Acts as a role model to create an environment of excellence. Promotes a professional environment; promotes professionalism for all staff as s/he leads by example. Consistently demonstrates strong customer focused approach in all situations. Provides clinical support as needed and as appropriate. Responds to emergencies. Evaluates patient conditions and department need with the Charge Nurse. Assists Charge Nurse and others with critical thinking and processing creative ways to deal with challenging situations. Communicates with department heads regarding issues, and collaborates with others in the development of solutions. Consistently identifies and implements cost-effective ways to staff and allocate resources. Provides processes for conflict resolution with all customers. Demonstrates leadership and excellent communication to maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, and managers. Demonstrates a working knowledge of current nursing theory and standards of care, structure standards, and procedures of medical oncology and infusion services. Strives to achieve high quality, low cost patient care solutions, working with nursing management to meet financial performance goals. Coordinates projects as needed under the direction of the manager. Assists in review, revision, implementation of policies and procedures, structure standards, protocols, standards of practice, and care plans. Ensures staff schedules are completed and posted in a timely manner. Understands SRH’s organizational structure and follows chain of command. Assists with the development of patient/family education programs as needed. Instructs and mentors staff on ongoing use of educational resources, assists manager regarding interviewing and decisions pertaining to hiring as needed. Works with the manager in determining appropriate staff performance management as needed. Completes performance reviews and other administrative paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. Reviews productivity and overtime trends on a daily basis and remains aware of staff workload; advises, teaches, or assists as needed. Reviews and approves Kronos timecards as required. Maintains/supports staff compliance with DNV Standards, WDOH, CMS, Practice Acts and National Patient Safety Goals. Implements initiatives to improve patient experience, both satisfaction and quality. Sets unit standards through research, evidence based care, benchmarks, and recognized standards of care. Ensures a safe environment for patients and families, healthcare providers, and visitors through rounding regularly on the unit. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
BSN required or enrollment in BSN program with completion of program within 3 years of hire date.
Experience/Training
Minimum of three years’ experience in oncology and/or outpatient care with demonstrated leadership ability preferred.
License/Certifications
Current Washington State RN Licensure required. AHA (American Heart Association) BLS required. Current Onc/Chemo/Bio certificate required within 6 months of hire. OCN preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
