Essential Functions
Assists in diagnostic x-ray with patient transfers and transport as well as sitting with selected patients that cannot be left unattended. Stands by for exams requiring second person as witness or patient advocate as deemed appropriate by physician i.e. : pelvic, rectal, sexual assault exams. Assists ED personnel as needed, performs basic ED skills, as outlined in unit skills list. Collect specimens using correct techniques and protocols for handling. Participates as an active member of the patient care team, including participation in timely change of shift report. Assists in room and stretcher preparation, restocking linen and emptying kick buckets as needed. Answers phones appropriately. Takes and relays messages. Follows protocol and directs calls as appropriate. Maintains department records in an accurate manner. Assists co-workers as required in providing quality and responsive patient care. Maintains patient board for accuracy, when downtime procedures in place. Transfers patients from location to location using appropriate methods and assistive devices. Keeps all areas clean and orderly. Maintains patient comfort, privacy and safety at all times. Takes and records vital signs including height / weight as directed. Demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment specific to assigned area, including maintenance and cost to patient and hospital. Completes the proper maintenance / engineering repair form for faulty equipment. Assists Emergency Department personnel as needed by stocking and cleaning rooms, locating transporting supplies. Assembles appropriate equipment for procedures utilizing sterile technique. Perform EKGs on patients of all ages. Recognizes and reports abnormal signs and symptoms to RN / MD. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and / or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and / or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Education
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience / Training
Minimum (6) months previous related experience preferred.
License / Certifications
Washington State CNA, Certified Medical Assistant or proof of completed EMT certification required. MA-R license required within six month of hire if EMT certification is used as basis for hire. American Heart Association BLS required. MA-P (Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy) required. Required to complete MA-P license training and apply for MA-P license within 1 year of hire. Continuing in the position is contingent on obtaining this license in a timely fashion.
Other Skills
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of the healthcare environment and transport equipment required. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).

Salary : $21 - $30
