Position Summary

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Golf Coach. This position plays a key role in supporting the health, well-being, and development of intercollegiate athletes at SVC. The Head Coach contributes to student-athlete retention and the overall success of SVC’s athletic programs. This role fosters a thriving, inclusive, and supportive environment for student-athletes.

The Location: Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish People’s, especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, Samish Indian Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe. Duties and Responsibilities

Head Coaching Leadership

  • Teach golf techniques and skills appropriate for collegiate competition;
  • Provide leadership to the women’s golf program in accordance with NWAC and college rules and regulations;
  • Establish a comprehensive recruiting plan;
  • Serve as a role model by fostering sportsmanship and professionalism among athletes representing SVC;
  • Adhere to Title IX policies and implement NWAC policies as outlined in the official NWAC Codebook.
Coaching and College/Community Relations
  • Develop a recruiting plan for student-athletes;
  • Promote SVC athletic programs within the college district and local community;
  • Collaborate with the athletic staff to build partnerships between the women’s golf program and local/campus communities;
  • Represent the college at NWAC meetings and events;
  • Encourage academic achievement and community involvement among athletes.
Administrative Duties
  • Process institutional and conference paperwork and reports efficiently;
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive practice and competition schedule;
  • Recruit student-athletes following college and NWAC policies;
  • Organize team travel, including lodging arrangements;
  • Assist in purchasing equipment and supplies as needed;
  • Develop and execute fundraising efforts to support the program, including events such as camps, clinics, and auctions;
  • Create a strategic plan to build and sustain a competitive women’s golf program.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of golf techniques and the ability to teach the sport.
  • Strong organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with NWAC rules and regulations (or a willingness to learn).
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds.
  • Ability to promote a philosophy of student success and academic achievement.
  • Proficiency in technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, to produce professional-level documents and reports.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • 1–3 years of coaching experience;
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of intercollegiate athletics;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the role.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Experience as a Head Coach or Athletic Trainer at a two- or four-year college;
  • Demonstrated success working closely with students to achieve their academic and athletic goals;
  • Experience working in diverse academic and athletic environments.

Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure, About SVC

Salary and Benefits:

  • The head coach stipend is $8,000 for the season.
  • Potential earnings from Student Services position and state benefit package.
  • Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon as practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
  • This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act and is civil service exempt.
