Description
The Garden Team Member is responsible for assisting the Garden Department Coordinator in the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art Garden Department that reflects the mission of the Co-op by providing high quality products and services at the best possible price.
Part-time, Seasonal position. Open availability, weekends required
Wage Range: $17.33 - $21.00 per hour
Requirements
Primary Job Duties:
Faces racks and rotates plants
Waters plants on a daily basis
Daily restocking of floral, house plants, hard goods, and seasonal products
Ensures the Garden Department is swept and clean
Keeps plants looking healthy including deadheading and pruning
Pulls and disposes of plants that are no longer viable
Assists with outdoor and indoor displays including restocking and cleaning
Assists with periodic inventory
Assists with periodic ordering
Assists with organization and rotation in storage of products
Receives products in accordance with policy as assigned by supervisor
Assists customers in deepening their knowledge of plants and garden-related products
Provides product information to cashiers and other employees as needed
Communicates concerns and ideas to coordinator
Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge of gardening, plants, houseplants, and garden-related products preferred
Knowledge of organics preferred
Knowledge of basic pests and diseases preferred
Proven ability to provide excellent, professional customer service by projecting a friendly, outgoing presence and maintaining a respectful demeanor at all times
Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm, think quickly, prioritize effectively, and problem solve within established guidelines
Ability to stay tidy and organized
Ability to stay motivated while working independently
Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork, compassion and constant communication are essential
Ability to meet expectations of regular, predictable attendance
Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings and weekends
Ability to maintain current food handler card
Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Essential Physical Requirements
Prolonged standing and walking
Frequent and prolonged reaching, bending, twisting, rotating, lifting, pushing, and pulling
Continuous fine motors skills work and gripping with hands
Must be able to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, repetitive
motion, and lifting 10-50lbs regularly
Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
Exposure to extreme temperatures
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (within reason) including rain, wind, freezing temperatures, extreme heat and be dressed appropriately for each
Clear spoken English and ability to perceive spoken voice clearly
