Job Description
We are seeking a professional, friendly, and detail-oriented Probate Paralegal to join our team. This individual will assist the attorneys in handling probate and estate matters. This position involves preparing legal documents, managing case files, and interacting with clients, courts, and other professionals involved in the probate process.
The ideal candidate thrives on organization, enjoys interacting with people, and excels at clear, compassionate communication. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and possess genuine empathy for individuals dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Key Responsibilities
· Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare probate-related documents, such as petitions for probate, affidavits, inventory forms, final accountings, and distributions to beneficiaries.
· Court Filings: Prepare and file documents with courts, including probate petitions, notices, and orders. Ensure all filings are accurately completed in a timely manner and in accordance with local court rules.
· Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with probate laws, including tax regulations, and assist in the preparation of tax filings related to probate process.
· Case Management: Maintain and organize case files, manage deadlines, track important dates (e.g., court hearings, filing deadlines), and ensure the smooth progression of cases.
· Client Communication: Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, update them on case status, and answer questions regarding the probate process.
· Asset Management: Assist in identifying and valuing estate assets, including real estate, financial accounts, and personal property.
· Distribution of Assets: Help prepare and execute the distribution of assets to beneficiaries as directed by the will or state law.
Qualifications
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and welcoming demeanor.
· Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Professional appearance and manner, suitable for meeting with attorneys and clients.
· A proven track record of reliability and excelling in public facing roles.
· Previous experience in a law firm or professional office setting is a plus but is not required; we are willing to train the right candidate that is dedicated and eager to learn.
