Summary:
The Deputy Title IX and Equal Opportunity Coordinator for Student Affairs is responsible for conducting Civil Rights and Title IX investigations involving students and for contributing to training on issues related to Title IX, sexual and gender-based misconduct (SGBM), civil rights, and the lived experiences of various groups, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA populations. The Equal Opportunity and Title IX Deputy Coordinator must be able to work independently but will be supported and supervised by the Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX.
The Deputy Coordinator will work closely with various campus constituencies, including Student Affairs, Campus Safety, and Human Resources among others. The Deputy Coordinator will also have access to senior leadership, including the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students and the General Counsel and Vice President of Human Resources to ensure compliance and best practices with training, education, communication, and the administration of grievance procedures involving students, staff and faculty.
The Deputy Coordinator is expected to maintain a consistent practice of self-care and stay updated and knowledgeable in the areas of Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, Section 504, New York State civil rights and Enough is Enough laws, diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging and includes the following responsibilities among others:
- Serves as the lead investigator in formal Title IX or Civil Rights complaint processes involving students and ensure equitable, prompt, and thorough investigations, utilizing trauma-informed practices and techniques as well as reviewing evidence for inclusion or redaction.
- Creates a thorough and compliant investigation report and compiles evidence collected as part of the report at the conclusion of an investigation
- Retains all relevant investigative records and communications among other relevant documents associated with the complaint process.
- Assists in the implementation of the required sexual and gender-based misconduct climate survey and collecting information for the Title IX Annual Report
- Serves on as a member of Advisory Council on Sexual and Gender Based Misconduct.
- Helps with the implementation or tracking of relevant case sanctions, supportive measures, interim measures, and remedies as well as case management when needed
- Facilitates or co-facilitates various compliance trainings and relevant programs, including those developed/created by the Deputy Coordinator
The Equal Opportunity and Title IX Deputy Coordinator should possess a record of high integrity and demonstrated success. Skills working with different constituency groups (students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, external parties such as law enforcement, investigators, and community-based organizations) are vital to managing the complexity of the role. The Title IX Deputy Coordinator will develop partnerships with campus and community groups such as the Advisory Council on SGBM and local external agencies. The Deputy Coordinator will develop strong working relationships with students, faculty and staff members to assist in our efforts for prevention, education, and maintaining a positive campus climate. The ability to prepare investigation reports and maintain accurate records are critical skills necessary to compliance and campus procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Master’s Degree or JD required
Experience: 1-3 years of Title IX, civil rights, or comparable investigative experience required; one year working in higher education administration is preferred.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of interpersonal violence, the impact of trauma interviewing, investigation techniques, and analyses of evidence to determine policy violations is preferred.
- The candidate must possess advanced written and verbal communications skills to work with all levels of the organization, as well as proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite.
- The ability to serve a diverse population, to multi-task, train and advise students and employees at all levels.
- Advanced training, via ATIXA, Grand River Solutions or other reputable training organization, related to Title IX Coordination and Investigations is preferred.
Salary range: $63,500 - $75,000
