Compliance Specialist
In this position, you will ensure that our organization complies with required regulations, laws, and policies. The Compliance Specialist's responsibilities include delivering employee training, evaluating compliance activities, and acting as a liaison between the organization and external agencies.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
- Implement, maintain, and evaluate policies, procedures, and work instructions to ensure required information is available, remains current, and identifies gaps for areas that need improvement.
- Develop and implement compliance programs that encompass laws and regulations relevant to the organization’s operations.
- Conduct assessment and analysis of potential risks and develop risk management strategies.
- Ensure staff are appropriately trained on the proper use of equipment, safety hazards, and environmental aspects of business.
- Monitor and assess adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Communicate with management and employees in the workplace about processes that don't comply.
- Act as a liaison between the organization and various external agencies (examples include but are not limited to workers comp insurance, OSHA)
- Investigate safety, environmental, and property damage incidents.
- Write incident reports based on investigations.
- Record keeping and reporting for safety and environmental reporting regulations. (examples include but are not limited to M300 Log, CDP Reporting, Sara II)
- Monitor and manage waste disposal, recycling, and pollution control initiatives.
- Perform audits to identify, measure, and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls.
- Oversee Safety Committee to reduce incidents.
- Ensure preventative maintenance procedures for compliance regulations are in place and performed in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in the external Audits concerning Safety and Environmental Compliance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Qualifications:
- Self-motivated, reliable with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines
- Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment
- Understanding of Export Control (EAR/ ITAR) regulations, desired
- Willing to learn new skills and concepts as business needs evolve
- Effective Time management and organizational skills

Possess fundamental written and verbal communication skills.
- Effectively communicate with team members and external stakeholders
- Be fluent (written and verbal) in the English language.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving skills, including experience preparing documents such as 8D's.
- Experience with Internal Auditing (AS9100 and/or ISO14001 Internal Auditor certification, desired).
- Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles
- Proficient in computer and common office software use is required (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel between SMI facilities - Must possess a valid driver’s license
Work Environment:
Climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a moderate noise level. In this position, you are working a full-time schedule, mainly in an office environment, with some time in a manufacturing setting.

Employment Criteria:
This position includes access or potential access to ITAR technical data. Therefore, candidates will need to qualify as a US Person, which is defined as a US Citizen, a Permanent Resident who does not work for a foreign company/foreign government/foreign governmental agency or organization, or a political asylee in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
