Job Description :
Every summer, the our client invites a group of high school students to spend six weeks at the Institute through the Summer Scholars Program (SSP). Students are matched with scientists to conduct original research projects in areas such as cancer biology, chemical biology, computational biology, infectious disease, and more. At the end of the six weeks, students present their research to the community in a scientific poster session. We are looking for an outstanding instructor to serve as a research advisor to a group of 18 high school students taking part in BSSP.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with BSSP staff to implement program initiatives
- Meet with scholars one-on-one every week to discuss project goals and clarify concepts related to their research projects
- Help foster relationships between scientific mentors and scholars, including advising mentors about project structure and addressing any difficulties students might be having
- Teach an introductory laboratory session based on an established workshop to teach students basic wet lab techniques
- Help students design and deliver scientific posters
- Attend occasional evening social activities
- Opportunity to develop additional programming addressing themes such as college applications, scientific careers, and scientific communication
