Dermatology Medical Assistant

Provide high quality patient care services, greeting and treating all patients' and guests with courtesy, fairness, and respect. Work with management and staff members in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork. Supports the goals and objectives of the practice. Responsibilities include courteously and professionally greeting patients and assisting with registration, scheduling, measuring vital signs, collecting health history and scribing patient notes for physicians.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows office policies, procedures, and protocols as appropriate
- Communicates effectively with other staff members
- Follows OSHA regulations and the safety guidelines of the practice
- Follows HIPAA policies and procedures
- Respects and maintains patient confidentiality
- Greets visitors in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provides any necessary instructions/directions
- Maintains clean, orderly work area
- Updates information in electronic patient charts and patient portal according to policy
- Interacts in a consistently professional and courteous manner with co-workers, patients, physicians and all others with whom contact occurs in the workplace
- Treats peers, superiors, subordinates, patients and vendors with fairness, courtesy and professionalism and contribute to the overall positive work environment of the clinic
- Reports to work at the scheduled time, demonstrate consistent and regular attendance, and consistently work the duration of the scheduled shift
- Some travel to assist other local clinics may be required
- Provides excellent, above average, customer service
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to physicians and physician assistants during examinations, office surgeries including medical/cosmetic procedures, surgery, dressing changes and other first aid procedures.
- Assists with instrument handling and exam/procedure preparation
- Assists with injections.
- Assist patients with pre and post procedure instructions, prescription requests, address pharmacy callbacks, provider orders, update charting and filing
- Maintains clean, warm and inviting examination rooms for patient visits
- Some travel to assist other local clinics may be required
- Intake/rooming of patients
- Cleans rooms as needed
- Obtain patients' chief complaints and medical histories
- Performs suture removal and medical dressings
- Completes paperwork for laboratories and ensures proper paperwork is uploaded into patients’ electronic medical records
- Ensures all referral letters are sent back to the referring physician
- Notifies patients with pathology and/or laboratory results as needed
- Educates patients
- Sterilizes instruments
- Stocks exam/surgical rooms
- All other standard medical assistant duties
- Performs other Job Activities as assigned per office location
- Triage patients
- Prescribe and send assigned prescription
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Biopsies
Excisions
Mohs Surgery
Knowledge of medical/dermatology terminology and general clerical procedures
Basic computer skills

Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions

Some local travel may be needed

Education and Experience:
High School graduate or equivalent
1-5 years relevant medical office experience
