Position Summary:

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Laundry

Aide plays a critical role in providing general laundry services to all Residents in the facility. The

Laundry Aide’s main function is to wash, dry, fold and mend clothing while following infection control

and safety procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Sorts soiled laundry and presoak in accordance with established infection control procedures. Items are to be weighed and loaded into washers. Select the appropriate cycle and water temperature. Add suitable laundering chemical in accordance with item being washed. Once washed, load wet linens into dryer and select appropriate drying temperature, time, and cycle according to linen type.
  • Sort and fold clean laundry for storage or distribute to linen carts in storage rooms.
  • Resident’s personal laundry is to be pressed and folded then delivered to resident rooms using clean linen carts. Check these items for repair or replacement needs as well as identification labels.
  • Escort soiled linen carts to the soiled linen holding area.
  • Follow Infection Control procedures for laundering isolation linens and clothing.
  • Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
  • Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Resident care areas.
  • Assists with training of new staff.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Promotes and protects Resident Rights; assists Residents to make informed decisions; treats Residents with dignity and respect; protects Residents’ personal belongings; reports suspected abuse or neglect; avoids the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards; supports independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation. Adheres to patient rights and reports suspected deviations to Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Administrator.
  • Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation and standard precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the work place; and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination.
  • Perform other duties and functions as required.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a housekeeping/Laundry role preferred.

Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of Residents.
  • Sufficient ability to read, write, and speak to complete work efficiently, effectively, and courteously.
