We are getting ready for summer 2025 and starting our hiring process for lifeguards at our Devonshire Aquatic Center and Skokie Water Playground! This is the perfect summer job for an individual that needs flexibility in their work schedule.

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons and employees at Skokie Water Playground and Devonshire Aquatics Center pools. Provides constant and dedicated surveillance of assigned zones to identify swimmers in distress. Responds to emergencies and provides emergency care or first aid as necessary. Assists with facility maintenance and general housekeeping procedures. Follows established opening and closing procedures. Professionally enforces all facility rules and policies; communicates rules and policies to patrons with tact. Must attend weekly in-service training and staff meetings as directed. When unavailable for scheduled shift, finds a substitute and communicates the name of the substitute to the Aquatics Supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: Shifts available seven days per week between the hours of 6:45a.m. and 10:00pm beginning Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, approximately 20-40 hours/week.
Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age. Current American Red Cross or Starfish Lifeguard certification a plus, but not required to apply. Must be able to successfully pass the StarGuard Elite lifeguard program administered through the Skokie Park District. Must demonstrate vision capabilities of 20/30 uncorrected or best corrected. Must be able to see using close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions in English. Must possess excellent leadership and communications skills.
Other Qualifications: The Park District provides lifeguard certification. All lifeguards offered a job must be able to pass the certification test. To pass the certification test applicant must be able to:
1. swim at their top speed 50 yards with a rescue tube, head up to sight a victim
2. swim at their top speed without a rescue tube, head up, to sight a victim
3. tread water for one minute without use of hands; 4) retrieve a weighted object (10 pound brick or manikin) from the bottom of a 12ft. pool and return object to the pool side.
