If you enjoy teaching art and fostering creativity in school-aged children, Art Sparks camp is the place for you! The Skokie Park District is seeking an outgoing and organized Camp Director for summer 2025.
The Art Sparks Camp Director is expected to conduct and oversee the camp program in its entirety. Plans, leads, and supervises camp activities for children aged 6-12. Supervises a staff of 3-5 counselors, 1-5 C.I.T.s (Counselors In Training), and 24-48 campers. Must have a positive attitude and a willingness to communicate with parents, campers, and staff with professionalism. The Director creates all art lesson plans including set up, clean up, early finisher activities, and teaching samples. Manages art supplies and works with the supervisor to order materials. Provides observations of staff and sets expectations for counselors to ensure the safety and success of campers. Supervises pool time, both in the water and on deck. Fosters kindness and respect among campers, implementing age-appropriate behavior management techniques. Leaves the camp site neat and orderly at the end of the camp day. Duties include maintaining accurate records and reports, sending and receiving parent emails and phone calls, and creating attendance sheets. Directors must attend ACA, CPR, first aid trainings and complete concussion, sexual harassment, and Mandated Reporter online trainings. Directors attend meetings as requested and perform other duties as assigned.
Hours:
Camp begins Monday, June 9, 2025, and runs through Friday, August 8, 2025. Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Must be available for Director’s training on May 28 and 29, and all staff trainings between May 31-June 6 (exact dates and times to be determined).
Qualifications
Must be a responsible adult, at least 21 years of age, with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have experience in leading groups of children in art-related activities. Prior summer camp employment experience is a plus, but not necessary. Must possess excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Priority will be given to applicants with teaching certifications and higher-level education in the visual arts. Teaching portfolios or project samples are encouraged in the interview process.
