DUTIES: The Skokie Park District is seeking a Technical Specialist for our Behind The Scenes Camp. The Technical Specialist works cooperatively with other technical and performing arts staff in the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities for ages 12-17 plus limited technical introductory activities for ages 7-12. Behind the Scenes Camp campers and staff design, construct and decorate sets and props, design and operate lighting and sound, and fit costumes to actors for the presentation of three full productions each in (2) four-week sessions plus behind the scenes work for one limited production during a week-long camp at the end of the summer. The Technical Specialist is responsible for the direct supervision of camp participants, operation and programming of the assigned camp specialties (i.e. lighting, sound, set construction, scenic artistry and props design/construction). They are responsible for supporting the preparation of weekly schedules, leadership of daily activities and maintenance of all necessary camp supplies and equipment. All specialists help to guide the selection of sets, costumes, and props and work closely with all other specialists, leaders, camp directors and supervisors to bring these elements together. They make suggestions on purchases needed and make every effort to stay within the production budget set by the supervisor. The Technical Specialist shall work closely and cooperatively with other members of the district to ensure a coordinated program format. Performs other assignments as required.
HOURS: Camp begins June 9, 2025 through August 1, 2025 and may also include the Intensive camp from August 4-8, 2025. Hours are generally: 8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. but some days may vary pending camp meetings & performances. Candidate must be available to attend training sessions in the week prior to camp plus 1-2 production meetings in the latter half of May, 2025. Special accommodations for limited days off could be considered if they are approved prior to hiring. In addition, staff must attend meetings, training sessions and camp family performances as directed.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a mature, responsible adult, at least 18 years of age. Prefer individual with a degree or currently involved in college studies toward a degree in Technical Theatre or related field. Must have prior experience leading campers or groups of school-aged children and enjoy working with ages 7-17. Individual must have instruction / experience in at least three to four of the following areas: lighting, sound, set construction, scenic artistry and props design/construction. Must possess excellent organizational, communication, presentation and customer service skills.
Salary : $17 - $19
