Sky Islands High School is seeking an innovative and dynamic Social Studies/English Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for interdisciplinary teaching, a commitment to fostering a supportive classroom environment, and the ability to connect learning to students' lives. This unique position offers the opportunity to teach a range of subjects, including: World History/Geography, U.S./Arizona History, Government/Economics and a couple of English classes. This position will be for SY25/26
Responsibilities
· Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that integrate interactive and experiential learning strategies.
· Write and prepare lesson plans, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards and student needs.
· Foster a student-centered classroom environment that encourages curiosity, discussion, and critical thinking.
· Use a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, group work, and Socratic seminars.
· Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
· Assess student progress using multiple measures and provide timely feedback.
· Maintain accurate records of student grades and progress.
· Input student grades and attendance into PowerSchool.
· Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary connections and support student success.
· Maintain regular communication with students, families, and school staff.
· Communicate with parents regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.
· Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in History, English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
· Arizona Teaching Certification or ability to obtain one.
· Experience teaching at the high school level, preferably in an interdisciplinary setting.
· Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching philosophy.
· Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and support their academic and personal growth.
· Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating a positive learning environment for all students.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
· Dedication to ongoing professional growth and development.
