Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. 1-2 years of experience preferred; Dermatology experience preferred, but not required. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate billing and coding for medical services, which directly impacts the efficiency of our operations and the satisfaction of our patients. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing processes.
Duties
- Strong understanding and knowledge of medical billing practices and office policies and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding how patient's insurance benefits apply to the visit and procedures performed at the visit
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to submit billing claims and data to insurance carriers and Medicare
- Work claims and claim denials to ensure correct and maximum reimbursement for services provided
- Post charges on a daily basis
- Prepare, review, and transmit claims including electronic and paper claim processing
- Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
- Check insurance payments for accuracy and compliance with contract adjustments
- Call insurance companies regarding payment discrepancies, Accounts Receivable
- Research and appeal denied claims
- Must have working knowledge of payer guidelines, i.e. modifier usage, timely filing
- Post insurance and patient payments daily , electronic and paper
- Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances
- Patient billing, statements,
- Must have exemplary customer service skills, be highly organized, and very detail oriented.
- Accounts Receivable, both Insurance and Patient balances
- Daily close, Month End Reporting
- Insurance verification of benefits
- Cross coverage for front desk when needed.
Requirements
- Proficiency in medical coding, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Experience with medical records management and medical billing processes.
- Familiarity with medical collection procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Certification in Medical Billing or Coding is a plus but not required.
