ABOUT THE POSITION
As the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Director, you will be responsible for directing and overseeing company-wide safety policies, procedures, and training for all locations; and recommendations for change to ensure safe business operations and best practices. This position must have the ability to effectively assess business operations and environments and implement EHS plans accordingly. Some of the responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Lead EHS strategy in coordination with Operations leadership
- Lead locations in Significant Injury and Fatality (SIF), Life Critical Policies and catastrophic risk reduction by providing training and education, coaching and mentoring.
- Ensure the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted.
- Provide programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.
- Oversee the monitoring, review, and follow-up of work related injuries.
- Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
- Identify company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
- Collaborate with business unit leaders to drive EHS organizational accountability
- Responsible for regulatory compliance by ensuring all necessary auditing, monitoring, reporting and inspections occur to required standards.
- Understand and comply with all state and federal laws, codes, and regulations.
- Provide leadership and coaching to the Safety department employees;
- Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with regulatory agencies, employees, and management.
What Youll Need to Do This Job:
- A bachelors degree is required.
- At least 5 years of related safety experience required. Agriculture experience a plus.
- Valid drivers license; ability to obtain a commercial drivers license is preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferred. Must be willing to continue education and the ability to obtain professional designation(s).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products.
- Highly self-motivated with effective reasoning, problem solving and multi-tasking ability.
- Travel approximately 30-40% for site visits, conferences and training; includes some overnight travel as needed.
- Comfortably and effectively present/speak in front of groups.
- Possess the mechanical aptitude to understand and recommend improvements at facilities.
- Physically able to lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Physically able to climb ladders, work at heights and underground areas.
- The position may be exposed to outdoor conditions, grain dust, and toxic chemicals.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
