ABOUT THE POSITION
The General Manager is responsible for leading the Sales, Risk, Commercial and overall Operations activity for Skyland Grain to achieve business plans and strategies that support the overall company strategy and mission. Some of the many duties of this position include:
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the profitability and financial success of Skyland Grain through a team of subordinate leaders across four business groups (Grains, Energy, Cotton, and Agronomy).
- Identify, develop, and implement sales strategies, plans and policies for all sales and commercial functions that enable the business to meet its volume, revenue and profit goals.
- Oversee group operational activities, in partnership with the SVP – Operations, including safety, production, quality control, maintenance, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, customer service, and continuous improvement ensuring operational efficiency and achievement of group and company objectives.
- Lead grower engagement initiatives. Represent Skyland Grain in meetings with growers, investors, regulatory agencies, community leaders, or other external parties.
- Determine, plan, and implement organizational structure and workforce plans necessary to meet group and company objectives for efficiency and profitability.
- Establish, communicate, and implement group-related policies, practices and standards to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
- Select, develop and direct a professional team of leaders.

- Develops, adapts and executes functional or departmental strategy to achieve key business objectives in areas of responsibility
- Decisions are guided by organization and functional strategies and objectives
Skills, Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
- 10 years’ relevant experience required
- Basic understanding of the co-op business model required, experience with co-op leadership preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Requirements and Working Environment
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
- May require travel up to 30%, including some overnight travel
- Valid driver’s license
