What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Facilitator position at Skylight Recovery Center?
The SUD/MH Group Facilitator is responsible for leading group therapy sessions for individuals struggling with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. The facilitator provides a safe, supportive, and structured environment where participants can share their experiences, explore coping strategies, and develop skills to improve their mental health and reduce substance use. This position requires the ability to foster group cohesion, maintain confidentiality, and apply evidence-based therapeutic techniques to promote recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Group Therapy Sessions:
- Lead group therapy sessions for individuals dealing with substance use and/or mental health disorders.
- Create a therapeutic, non-judgmental, and supportive environment to encourage open communication and participation.
- Guide discussions on topics related to substance use, mental health, coping strategies, relapse prevention, and emotional regulation.
- Provide Psychoeducation and Support:
- Educate group participants on the nature of substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and available treatment options.
- Support group members in developing coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, and working towards recovery goals
- Monitor and Document Group Progress:
- Monitor participants' progress and behavior throughout the sessions.
- Maintain detailed records of each group session, including attendance, progress notes, and any concerns related to participant well-being.
- Ensure that all documentation is completed in a timely and confidential manner, in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
- Maintain Ethical and Professional Standards:
- Adhere to all relevant ethical and legal guidelines, including confidentiality and informed consent.
- Ensure all interactions and interventions are conducted with respect for each participant’s autonomy and dignity.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associates or Bachelor’s in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Certification or licensure in substance use counseling, mental health counseling, or a related field preferred (e.g., LCSW, LPC, CADC).
- Experience:
- Experience working with individuals who have substance use disorders, mental health challenges, or co-occurring disorders.
- Previous group facilitation experience is highly preferred.

Work Environment:
- This position may require flexibility in hours to accommodate group scheduling, including evening or weekend availability.
- The facilitator will work within a team of mental health professionals and collaborate with case managers, counselors, and medical staff.
- Work may take place in inpatient or outpatient settings, and virtual facilitation may also be required.
