What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Skyline Camp and Retreat Center?
Seeking camp counselors to join our team this June, July and possibly the beginning of August. Camp Skyline is located in Almont, Michigan. All staff have the added benefit of room and board in addition to a weekly stipend. At Skyline we embrace each camper with love and acceptance. We believe that experiences in the natural world with community help develop resilience, joy, and kindness in our campers. Our days and nights are full with programs and activities that aim to send our campers home dirty, tired, and full of joy.
Our counselors have the unique experience of working with a vast range of ages, needs and socioeconomic backgrounds over their time at camp. They lead cabin groups for 6 days and 5 nights or day camp groups for 5 days. They room and board at camp onsite with a diverse group of camp staff for the summer.
Qualifications:
- Counselors have experience working with children, teens and/or adults in an outdoor setting. They are able to apply information learned in training to their experiences at camp with our campers.
- Counselors have experience building community, ensuring the well being and safety of others, and leading activities.
- Counselors are kind, smart, and intrinsically motivated. They have a desire to learn new things. They can adapt and are flexible with change. They are energetic, creative, and hard-working.
Job responsibilities:
- Co-lead a different group of 5-14 overnight or day campers each week; help each camper grow and adjust to other campers and camp life.
- Assist campers with activities of daily living while maintaining physical and emotional safety.
- Guide and support campers in decision making, collaboration and participation in group activities.
- Lead/assist activities for groups of 5-15 campers. Activities include: sports & games, boating, catch & release fishing, archery, wild edible hikes, farm visits, goat walks, gardening, tree climbing, cooking, journaling & sketching, singing & drumming, teambuilding, yoga, shelter & fire building, free play and more.
- Collaborate with a team of camp counselors, kitchen staff and camp directors.
- Participate in a one week Staff training and in Sunday trainings.
- Weekly cleaning of camp recreation and lodging spaces.

Pay: $420.00 - $450.00 per week
