Job Summary:
AZ Compass K-12 School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Design and Innovation Teacher to lead a new STEAM-focused course for students in grades K-12. This class will combine principles of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) with the design thinking process to equip students with real-world problem-solving skills. The teacher will inspire students through creative, hands-on projects that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver a STEAM-integrated Design and Innovation curriculum using the design thinking process (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test).
• Design and facilitate engaging, hands-on projects that encourage students to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through real-world challenges.
• Support schoolwide STEAM initiatives, including activities such as robotics, coding, and maker projects.
• Guide students in developing and testing innovative solutions, promoting iteration based on feedback.
• Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students.
• Integrate digital tools and technologies to enhance design, innovation, and prototyping.
• Provide clear assessment criteria, monitor student progress, and share feedback with students and families.
• Collaborate with staff to connect STEAM concepts to core subjects and support cross-curricular integration.
• Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and community partnerships related to STEAM careers.
• Participate in school meetings, professional development, and campus events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Design, Technology, or a STEAM-related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Experience with the design thinking process, project-based learning, and STEAM education.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and planning skills.
• Ability to differentiate instruction across K-12 grade levels.
• Passion for empowering students to become creative problem-solvers.
• Familiarity with robotics, coding, 3D printing, or maker space tools is a plus.
