We have an opening for Medical Receptionist. This is a Full Time position consisting of 40 hours per week.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Serves as advocate for patients, customers, and visitors to the hospital through the greeting, directing, and registration process, as well as through duties as phone receptionist. Assists in the daily maintenance of medical records for all hospital patients. Responsible for maintenance of electronic medical records and chart organization. Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with Washington state and HIPAA regulations. This position will have full access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Such access is necessary to perform the requirements of the job, and it is imperative that confidentiality of PHI be maintained at all times. Assists in basic patient service functions, as deemed necessary.
EDUCATION BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
· High school graduate or equivalent
· Previous admission/registration experience, medical billing experience preferred
· Ability to input data into computer with accuracy, utilizing proper spelling and grammar
· Requires exceptional interpersonal skills to interview and obtain information from patients and to interact with other hospital personnel
· Requires the ability to prioritize multiple duties in a fast paced environment since the performance and concentration of several tasks may be required simultaneously
· Requires the ability to move and transition between multiple departments in an expedient manner
· The ability to multitask, work on numerous projects at one time and change focus when appropriate for the work environment
· Bilingual preferred but not required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Supports hospital mission and strategic vision; manages hospital resources appropriately; complies with hospital policies and programs; maintains skill levels, licenses, and certifications; complies with all state and federal compliance and HIPAA requirements; keeps lines of communication open between self and other hospital personnel; competent with computer programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Functions as the primary receiver of incoming phone calls. Directs incoming calls to the other departments or patient rooms.
· Greets all patients, customers and/or visitors entering the facility.
· Monitors the flow of our customers and ensures prompt service.
· Advocates for the patient, ensures wait times are appropriate, and follow sup when patients need assistance. Ensures patients are not forgotten.
· Registers patients and/or notifies patient service representative of need for assistance in registering patients, based on incoming volume. Uses trouble shooting skills to determine when additional help is needed.
· Performs the registration process for all inpatient and outpatient customers after regular business hours.
· Process daily outpatient packets assuring each record is complete and accurate.
· Attach test results and other forms to patient charts and scan into EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
· Assure correct assembly of patient records within the EMR.
· Scan documents into EMR accurately and in a timely manner.
· Perform incoming and outgoing Release of Information (ROI) in accordance with all State and Federal requirements and laws. This includes maintaining logs in the EMR as well as preparing documents and invoices for release of information.
· Maintain and properly archive paper charts as necessary.
· Pull and deliver paper medical record charts or components for inpatients and outpatients when requested.
· Demonstrates competency with computer programs needed to complete job functions.
· Demonstrates ability to remain calm in stressful environment. Demonstrates calm, caring demeanor to comfort patients in need.
· Uses proper channels of communication and authority.
· Establishes and maintains effective, cheerful, pleasant and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and Manager.
· Records (daily) time worked (accurately) via appropriate system.
· Participates in rotation of holiday coverage.
· Demonstrates adaptability in dealing with change and while working under stress.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Follows Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
