Position Overview:

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Project Scientist with a proven track record in the study of Beam-Beam Effects in Circular Colliders.

In this position, you will contribute to Beam-Beam studies for the FCC-ee and EIC colliders. These studies will utilize state-of-the-art simulation tools including XSuite, WarpX, BeamBeam3D, BMAD, and the Blast toolkit. Study topics include the beamstrahlung-induced 3D flip-flop instability at the FCC-ee and polarization preservation with beam-beam interactions at the EIC. Additional topics may include the development of novel bunch control and collimation systems using beam laser-interactions at FACET-II, and application of beam-beam simulation codes to very high energy linear colliders.

Your specific duties include:

  • Modeling Beam-Beam effects in the FCC-ee and EIC.
  • Studies of polarization preservation at the EIC.
  • Development of simulation frameworks on computing clusters including S3DF at SLAC and NERSC at LBNL.
  • Participation in the FACET-II experimental program

Note: The Project Scientist role is a fixed term staff position. Appointment duration is 24 months, with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Ph.D. in physical sciences or engineering.
  • Post-doctoral experience with Beam-Beam studies at existing colliders or in the design of future colliders.
  • Experience with programming (preferably Python or Matlab).
  • Experience with Particle-in-Cell and/or Particle Tracking codes.
  • Ability to carry out independent and collaborative research in a diverse research team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. good interpersonal skills are essential.

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $165,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Salary : $90,000 - $165,000
