Position Overview

The Construction Management group is an organization within the Project Management Office (PMO) responsible for SLAC infrastructure project construction activities and oversight of construction subcontracts. The Construction Manager 1 (CM1) reports to the Construction Management Manager and is assigned (matrixed) to Project Managers. The CM1 must be well versed in construction subcontract management and acts as an advocate for SLAC and the University, as applicable, to ensure project construction activities are planned and executed safely, on schedule, and on budget from project initiation through completion.A successful CM1 develops excellent customer relations with internal and external stakeholders, and business relations with subcontractors.Leadership, ownership, diligence, persistence, and integrity are required to be successful in this role.

Your Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Perform field inspections and quality assurance of construction projects.
  • Provide daily construction reports and maintain up-to-date files of all construction documents.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings to keep Project Manager apprised of project progress, status, quality and schedule.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new observed hazards and implement controls as project's scope of work changes; ensure work is authorized and released in accordance with approved guidelines and processes prior to commencing work activity.
  • Document and report all construction deficiencies to Project Manager.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

To Be Successful In This Position You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Construction Management or related field with minimum five years¿ experience in construction superintendence or management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in construction and construction management.
  • Experience planning, directing, and coordinating activity on construction sites.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend construction documents, including plans, specifications, contracts, regulatory requirements, Request for Information (RFI), Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules etc.
  • Working knowledge of testing, special inspection, permitting, Request for Information (RFI), submittals, change order, and scheduling policies and procedures associated with construction contracts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Certifications And Licenses

  • Valid California non-commercial Class driver¿s license.
  • CMAA certified construction manager preferred, and/or ability to obtain the license within 2 years.

The expected pay range for this position is $124,678 - $156,094 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
