The expected pay range for this position is $120,737 to $150,199 per annum. Your Specific Responsibilities Include
- Work with engineers, designers, and technicians in the fabrication and assembly of the LCLS-II-HE system. Components will range in complexity from simple mechanical hardware to magnet and vacuum assemblies.
- Conduct and review advanced technical analyses for manufacturing processes, ensuring designs and instructions align with production capabilities. Act as the final approver for engineering masters, work instructions, and tooling requirements before they are passed to Manufacturing Coordinators.
- Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Evaluate and implement new technologies, materials, or methodologies to streamline production processes.
- Establish and document best practices for tooling, fixtures, and engineering masters/work instructions.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Planning, Production, and Purchasing for technical matters. Support Purchasing in selecting vendors by providing technical input on material specifications, tooling needs, and quality requirements. Partner with Production to analyze recurring issues, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions.
- Provide leadership and mentoring of junior staff. Assist in upskilling team members on advanced manufacturing techniques, tools, and best practices as needed. Provide guidance to the team on work priority.
- Provide feedback and insights on team performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement directly to the Department Head.
- Lead high-priority or complex projects, coordinating timelines, resources, and deliverables. Monitor progress on engineering deliverables, ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are updated.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related field and six years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Ability to understand, analyze and interpret drawing packages describing the fabrication and assembly of complex scientific instruments, this requires knowledge of mechanical fabrication practices, mechanical design, vacuum compatible fabrication practices, and drafting standards.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and train a diverse work staff.
- Proficiency in Visual Manufacturing software or similar project management tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues across departments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring quality and uniformity in operations.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local area machine shops, sheet metal shops, material suppliers, braze shops, plating shops, and construction contractors.
- Demonstrated experience in vendor selection, placement of orders, order expediting and tracking, managing inspection and material certifications documentation, and receiving and storage of incoming materials.
- A solid understanding of mechanical fabrication and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) processes and handling.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven organization skills to track documents and manage deadlines, using spreadsheets or other software tools as appropriate.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard office software such as MS Office Suite, MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, take initiative to complete duties proactively, and work under tight deadlines.
