What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Services Tech Housekeeping position at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital?
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for cleaning in all areas of the Medical Center and maintaining the environment for appearance, sanitation and safety. They are also responsible for maintaining clean, sanitized, and freshly processed linens used to support patient care.
The Environmental Services Technicians role may involve any and/or all of the following activities and responsibilities:
- Maintenance of a sanitary Medical Center environment through activities like mopping, sweeping, dusting, sanitizing, disinfecting, polishing, etc. as assigned by the manager. This may include operation of cleaning machines such as vacuums and floor scrubbers.
- Cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of patient rooms and furniture. Maintaining the sanitation, cleanliness and appearance of public areas such as hallways, restrooms, waiting areas, meeting rooms, and staff areas.
- Gathering soiled linens, sorting, processing and redistributing linens in the medical center. This includes operation of laundry and linen processing machines. Must be able to see stained and torn linens and pull them from inventory.
· Follows safety instructions/guidelines, pertinent OSHA guidelines, and safe work practices.
· Follows infection prevention practices and wears PPE when sorting or handling soiled linens, and working with or cleaning heavily soiled or contaminated items.
· Frequently performs hand hygiene.
· Uses good body mechanics when performing tasks.
· Follows safety and use procedures when using machines and only operates machines they have received training on. (Training provided.)
· Uses the computerized time clock system accurately. (Training provided.)
· Tracks, collects productivity and/or quality information as assigned by the Department Manager.
· Attends 75% of Department meetings.
· Properly segregates and safely handles waste.
· Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, visitors, and co-workers in all departments.
· Employee must be able to work without posing a safety threat to themselves or to others.
