The Energy Engineer role at Slipstream is part of our Research Team where we study, develop, and test the next generation of energy solutions across multiple sectors of the economy.

We are seeking an Energy Engineer who will play an integral role on the Research Team by working on teams to conduct research projects (including field measurement) to quantify energy impacts and help us achieve clean energy and equity solutions.

What you’ll do:

• Conduct analysis of energy systems in communities and buildings including HVAC, lighting, water heating, renewable energy (solar PV), thermal and battery energy storage system (BESS), vehicle charging, and other building energy systems.

• Conduct field research by visiting buildings and other facilities to gather building information and data, which may include building layout, design drawings, HVAC and other energy system operation and control sequences, user satisfaction, comfort, and other outcomes.

• Recommend energy system design, integration, and control strategies for building HVAC and distributed energy resources (e.g., BESS, solar PV etc.) for improved energy efficiency and building demand flexibility.

• Manage or coordinate some research and development projects or manage individual tasks on larger multi-part projects. Communicate with partners.

• Assist senior staff in developing communications and other content describing the outcomes of research.

Qualifications

What you’ll need:

• Analytical thinker, ability to solve complex engineering problems and conduct energy and power systems analysis

• Project experience or understanding of fundamental building energy systems including HVAC, water heating, renewable energy (solar PV), thermal and battery energy storage system (BESS), vehicle charging.

• Field experience with building automation systems (BAS) and building control sequences.

• Ability to manage projects both independently and alongside team members; maintain organization among complexity

• Curiosity to investigate new approaches to address climate change and equity problems

• Ability to communicate with a diverse group of energy stakeholders including researchers and technical personnel, utilities, building occupants, community members, and supply chain personnel

• Ability to clearly convey complex concepts, ideas, and solutions

We’d like it if you had familiarity with one or more of these. If not, here’s what you’ll learn:

• Building control system integration with cloud-based software applications. Communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus. Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity.

• Measurement and verification, and observation of energy systems through commissioning or verification

• Knowledge of relevant building energy codes and standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, architectural, or electrical engineering, physics, or professional equivalent

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in related work.

Salary : $81,228 - $99,340
