Position: Classroom Aide

POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
- As a vital part of the SLO Classical Academy team, the Aide role specifically supports the teaching staff to enable the “at-home” school day. Aides work in partnership with Teachers to ensure classroom programs run smoothly. The ideal candidate is a willing learner, works well with a team and independently, has a growth mindset, anticipates needs, and manages disruptions. The Aide will help provide students with an enriching and safe environment in partnership with the Teacher and families.
- Due to their experience, training, and exposure to our teachers, the Aide will be a resource pool for open teaching positions.
JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Part-Time, Non-Exempt Employee Status
- The Aide reports to the Lead Teacher of the respective level
- Day-to-day supervision and direction comes from the classroom Teacher
- The Aide will interact with all members of staff and the community of teachers, contractors, and volunteers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required:
- Experience working in a school setting
- 2 years experience assisting in a classroom
- 2 years experience of direct involvement in student care and discipline
- CPR/1st Aid certified
- Live Scan through SLO Classical Academy
- Technology - Mac literate; knowledgeable with Word, Excel, Google, etc.

- Clear a fingerprint background check and TB screening
- Ability to carry out duties as described below
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Classroom support hours
- Help with check-in and pickup procedures
- In-class student support, including grid work (what to do and when), homework support, small group monitoring
- Class activities - lead, direct, organize
- Recess supervision as required
- 1-2 hours non-classroom - may vary week to week; some tasks may require onsite
- Attend Planning Sessions with the Team (virtual or live)
- Provide feedback to the Teacher to ensure complete communication with parents/guardians
- Provide input to the teaching specialists as required on student progress, challenges
- Collaborate with the Teacher on class activities and scheduling
- Assist the Teacher in maintaining an orderly and safe physical classroom environment, including room setup and clean-up at the end of the day
- Substitute Teacher - Assume the role of substitute teacher during the absence of the Teacher
- Attend team meetings and school-wide meetings/events as designated by Supervisor
- Staff members are expected to adhere to all Administrative Directives as well as any applicable SLOCA Policies, including those specifically outlined in the Employee Manual
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds on a limited basis. Able to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods and move about campuses easily. Able to work irregular hours if needed for meetings, etc.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 per week
