POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
As a vital part of the SLO Classical Academy team, the Spirit Team Coach is responsible for leading and training a group of student-athletes in cheerleading and dance at school events, including practices, competitions, and game days, ensuring safety while fostering a positive team culture and promoting school spirit through enthusiastic and coordinated performances.
JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- The Spirit Team Coach position is a seasonal position with coaching taking place from July - November, with the possibility of it becoming a year-round position
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive knowledge of cheerleading techniques
- Must demonstrate knowledge of cheer and dance, proven success in coaching cheer and dance, and the ability to develop and motivate student-athletes
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Experience in instructing tumbling preferred

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and teach spirit team routines, including choreography & stunts and accompanying music, and promote school spirit at events
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for student-athletes
- Foster a positive team dynamic, promoting leadership within the team and building camaraderie
- Maintain inventory of spirit team equipment, uniforms, and supplies
- Evaluate individual strengths and weaknesses, providing personalized feedback to improve skills and technique
- Develop and grow the Spirit Team program for the school by implementing new features, enhancing existing functionalities, and optimizing program structure to improve user experience and engagement
- Develop strategies to attract new users and retain existing ones through targeted outreach and engagement initiatives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, walk, and reach overhead for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
