What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Designer position at Sloan?
About the role:
The Tool Designer is based at our manufacturing headquarters in Franklin Park, IL. In this role you will prepare tool layouts for various machines, specify necessary cutting tools and design special work holding and assembly fixtures.
What you'll do:
- Receive work assignments from Tool Engineering Manager
- Contact vendors to receive costs and ascertain if items are in stock.
- Prepare tool room work orders and purchase orders.
- Design tooling, fixtures and detailed drawings with dimensioning and geometric tolerancing in accordance with standards.
- Design testing equipment for various product assemblies.
- Design loading devices and machine modification units for special machines.
- Prepare tool layouts for multi-spindle machines, rotary transfer machines, etc., including determining speeds, feeds, gearing, etc.
- Design holding fixtures, jaws, tool holders for accurate machining, gages, sheet metal fabrications, chip guards and simple safety devices.
- Specify standards and Bills of Materials for shop fabrication to properly machine parts.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 5 Years Tool Designer Experience
Salary : $84,000 - $92,000
