ASC PACU Assistant

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (by Department as follows):

• Pre/ Post-op: May include landing patient in pre-op bay, applying monitors to patients, restocking bays, assistance with bed turnover, preparing patients for discharge including assisting the patient with getting dressed, IV removal, possible application of DME, transport of patient to X-ray as needed, transport of patient downstairs for pickup, assistance with putting away materials, entering surgery times/data in surgical health record system (Vision) and POC testing (CBG, etc). Working closely with nursing staff for direction and other assignments as needed.
• PAT: Includes assisting with surgery chart prep, pre-admission phone calls and interviews, communicating with Anesthesia regarding health history information that requires review for surgery, obtaining previous medical records and cardiac testing as needed for review, ordering pre-op testing such as labs/ecgs as needed, performing MRSA cultures as needed, early communication with clinical and ASC surgery scheduling staff on scheduling discrepancies, retrieving phone messages and returning patient calls. Communicating patient questions/needs to clinical staff as needed.

• • Highschool graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program with current Certification, or CNA II program with current Certification
  • BLS Certification, or able to obtain within 6 months of date of hire
  • Strong verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills required. Exceptional ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, medical staff, and co-workers
  • Must possess knowledge of medical terminology, critical thinking skills, and ability to multitask and prioritize daily assignments

  Preferred

  • At least one year experience in a patient care setting
  • Prior experience utilizing electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Experience with NextGen, Vision, EPIC and ENVI helpful
  • Prior patient health history interview experience
  • Prior patient medication and allergy reconciliation experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred

  Adherence to Universal Precautions and familiarity with correct emergency procedures is required. The ability to push gurneys, assist patients with durable medical equipment and dressing, and put away supplies requires the applicant to stand for long periods, stoop, and squat. The applicant should be able to lift and/or assist with up to 50 pounds.

  
  

The Slocum Ambulatory Surgery Center is looking to fill a full-time, 36–40-hour assistant position in the Pre-Op/PACU department. Applicants must have one year of recent patient care experience. Current Oregon CNA II or MA certification with BLS preferred but may be obtained within the first six months of hire. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment efficiently.
