Summary/Objective
Translates Physician's dictations of patient care and treatment into comprehensive typed records.
Essential functions

- Receives physician's dictation of patients' cases.
- Listens to digital recordings and transcribes physician's notes into well-organized and accurate typewritten statements.
- Detects any discrepancies in dictation and edits them accordingly.
- Translates complex medical terms and ensures that the meaning of the reports do not change.
- Develops an extensive knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with a variety of medical documents.
- Enters typed and reviewed documents in EMR.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems
- Ability to understand and interpret medical terminology
- Understanding and compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to type and 10 key by touch
- Knowledge of common Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- To be professional and courteous
- Able to multi task
- Prioritize work load daily, weekly and monthly
- Have high accuracy and efficiency
- Communicate clearly, concisely and courteously via phone, email and in person

Physical demands
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Able to walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Able to reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to hear and understand in person and over the phone, as well as to listen to verbal dictation.
- Able to speak and provide information in person and over the phone.
- Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Be able to work on a computer and keyboard for up to eight hours a day.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and training.
- CMT certification preferred.
- Previous orthopedic transcription experience preferred.
