What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician position at SLPT?
PURPOSE/SUMMARY
- Perform regular cleanliness testing on incoming and finished material per SLPT and customer requirements
- Complete regular gage calibration and documentation activities on time using certified masters and methods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lab Coordination — Responsible for coordinating the following activities relating to equipment and lab area:
- Perform pump/components flushing operations using specialized solvents to clean oil pumps, following strict protocols for solvent handling and disposal. This includes carefully collecting and processing solvent samples for analysis while maintaining proper documentation of all procedures.
- Operate laboratory drying oven to prepare filter samples according to standardized procedures. This involves monitoring temperature settings, maintaining appropriate drying times, and ensuring proper handling of samples throughout the drying process.
- Conduct precise gravimetric analysis by weighing filters both before and after particle collection, using analytical balances and documenting all measurements. This includes maintaining calibration records and ensuring accuracy of all weighing equipment.
- Utilize digital microscopy equipment to analyze particle characteristics, generating detailed reports on particle sizes and distributions. This requires proficiency in microscope operation, image capture software, and data analysis tools to produce accurate technical documentation.
- Manage laboratory inventory systems for glassware and general supplies, including creating detailed stock lists, monitoring usage patterns, and maintaining minimum stock levels. Process purchase orders through approved vendors while adhering to budget constraints.
- Verify received shipments against purchase orders, inspect items for damage or defects, and properly document and store all incoming materials. This includes updating inventory management systems and maintaining accurate records of all laboratory assets.
- Handle and store laboratory chemicals and materials according to safety protocols and regulations, ensuring proper labeling, storage conditions, and documentation. This includes maintaining updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and following all relevant safety procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED, some college or associates preferred
- 3 Years experience in related field
- Must have good basic math skills.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as quality standards, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must possess computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets.
