SLR International Corporation is currently seeking a Principal-level Engineer/Scientist/Hydrogeologist with 10-15 years’ experience to act as a principal within our growing environmental consulting practice. The ideal candidate for this position is a motivated environmental consulting professional with the desire to foster technical excellence and provide efficient project management while maintaining strong internal and external client relationships. This candidate will be an integral part of our growth strategy.
As a Principal, you will work with our staff of environmental and geotechnical professionals dedicated to providing integrated services on a wide variety of projects primarily in New England, including environmental investigation and remediation projects and site redevelopment projects. An understanding of the interaction between the phases of multi-disciplinary projects is desirable. You will be involved with the continued development and mentoring of junior staff and be responsible for scheduling, delegating, and overseeing the work of project team members. Work will be performed under the supervision of the Technical Discipline Manager for the Eastern US and our Service Line Operations Manager for the US.
You will have the opportunity to represent SLR with clients throughout proposal, contracting, and project performance phases and will be responsible for planning and day-to-day execution of the technical aspects of projects. Additionally, you will have responsibility for the financial management of these projects, including budgeting, subcontractor management, and client invoice review.

Required Qualifications
Job Description
Bachelor’s Degree in Geological/Environmental Engineering/Sciences (Master’s Degree is a plus)
- Massachusetts LSP license required with related licenses (PE, PG, LEP, LSRP) a plus
- History of providing environmental consulting services for site investigations and remediation related to soil, groundwater, soil vapor, indoor air, and sediment sampling
- Understands environmental due diligence (Environmental Site Assessments) with a strong grasp of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), experience with programs in nearby states and emerging contaminants a plus.
- Balances assignments; strong organizational skills
- Reviews technical deliverables, data analysis, and mapping for deliverables ranging from site assessment reports to remedial action plans and Permanent Solutions
- Experience editing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge and the ability to review the reports of others
- Manages task assignments and helps mentor/train other staff as required
- Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and fosters a positive working relationship with the client
- Systematically and pro-actively examines the various components of an issue to understand key elements and relationships and thinks strategically, considering a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems and seeking input before making decisions
- Completes tasks with minimal supervision and direction – self-starter
- Demonstrates professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high-quality work products
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

- Possess or have completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher training

- Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing environmental reports with leadership review
- Overseeing project performance and project contractual and financial issues (including terms of agreement, changes in scope, scheduling, and billing process)
- Managing, mentoring, and coordinating with SLR staff of project-level scientists, engineers, and consultants; and coordinating with them on projects
- Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations
- Participating in meetings and agency consultation
- Ensuring work is carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with company safety rules and applicable regulatory, industry, and other pertinent standards. This includes, but is not limited to, development of health and safety plans, coordinating and participating in regular safety meetings and training, work site inspections, using required personal protective equipment, and responding to unsafe work hazards.
