Essential Job Functions: 

  • Collaborates with and assists other SMA staff in a supportive case management role including sharing case management duties, actively participating in staff meetings, leading groups, participating in trainings, and sharing resources and information.
  • Deliver substance abuse prevention and outreach activities in a community and/or telehealth environment.
  • Communicate and maintain a positive relationship with school personnel.
  • Provide general support and guidance to clients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:  High School Diploma with lived experience with substance abuse recovery. Experience working with prevention programming and school system preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, medical and clinical professionals, and the general public. 
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written client documentation/reports. 
  • Ability to handle verbally and /or physically abusive and aggressive persons and utilize aggression control techniques to ensure the safety and well being of the person, other persons, and employees on the team. 
  • Ability to incorporate cultural and age appropriate care into all aspects of communication and service delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with other employees, program staff, persons receiving services, outside organizations, and others.
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Must connect with young people and be engaging during presentations
  • Must pass pre-employment drug & alcohol test, pass pre-employment physical, pass background check.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patients per HIPAA and 65D-30 policies.
  • Organizational and time management skills; a good communicator; engaging personality with youth; has excellent decision making and problem solving skills.

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record if required to drive Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral vehicle and/or use personal vehicle for SMA business. Proof of personal automobile insurance if the position requires you to drive your own vehicle for SMA business (does not include incidental use). There is a lot of travel required as services will occur in a school and/or community setting. There may be additional support provided to clients/family members in their home. Complete State of Florida mandatory level 2 background screening prior to start of employment if direct contact with children/adolescents, vulnerable adults, or the developmentally disabled may be involved.  Complete Mandt training, CPR, First Aid and HIV/AIDS training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
