What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Kennel Assistant / Cleaning Assistant position at Small Animal Medicine and Surgery?
If you have ever wanted to work in a veterinary hospital, this is a great entry level position to get you started. Small Animal Medicine & Surgery is a one doctor practice and we see dogs, cats and a variety of small companion animals, including birds & reptiles. You must have a strong passion for animals and a strong work ethic. Teamwork, a positive attitude and good communication are a must! We have many opportunities for advancement and cross training for the right individuals! Our kennel staff works 365 days a year, and are busiest during weekends and holidays. This position requires holiday availability.
*** Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM
*** Occasional Weekends and Holidays
Responsibilities:
- Clean and disinfect cages, runs and yard as needed
- Maintain facilities including washing dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, restocking and organizing supplies and storage areas.
- Cleaning is a very important duty here; we clean up after the pets and also general office/hospital cleaning is required.
- Daily interaction with cats, dogs and exotics of varying size and temperament, handling each animal in a safe, caring and respectful manner
- Mark records correctly for eating, drinking and elimination habits; feed and water animals according to schedules
- Give pets their medications as directed and giving baths when requested.
- Assist technicians and veterinarian with animal care when needed
- Collaborate and take instruction from staff. Maintain a professional and respectful manner when working and communicating with staff
- Must be pleasant and compassionate with the public even if they are upset or difficult.
- You must follow hospital policies and procedures and understand the importance of such things as client confidentiality.
- You must have good attendance record and not be tardy to work. This is a permanent position.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
- Walking/standing for up to 8 hours
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 years related animal care preferred
- Experience working with animals, strong preference for veterinary experience
- Reliability and timeliness
- Able to work cooperatively in a team environment; while also able to work independently
