Key responsibilities of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon:
- Surgical procedures:
- Removing impacted wisdom teeth
- Performing jaw realignment surgery (orthognathic surgery)
- Treating facial injuries from trauma
- Excising oral tumors and cysts
- Placing dental implants
- Reconstructing facial structures after trauma or surgery
- Treating cleft lip and palate
- Diagnosis and evaluation:
- Assessing patients with facial pain, jaw dysfunction, or oral abnormalities
- Taking dental X-rays and conducting oral examinations
