Position Description: To perform building upkeep and repairs, building maintenance worker's duties and responsibilities often include: Maintaining records of any work and inspections done on-premises. Performing inventory on repair supplies. Keeping repair tools and supplies clean and organized.
Reports to: Building Principal
General Responsibilities:
1. Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
2. Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
3. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
4. Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with: a. electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. b. exterior and interior of buildings. c. school grounds.
5. Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
6. Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
7. Act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
8. Observe district policies at all times.
9. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
10. Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor or Administrative Staff.
Maintenance Functions:
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance and minor repair duties on buildings and equipment.
- Repairs drywall and masonite surfaces, broken windows, leaking valves, electrical sockets and switches, sink traps, leaking faucets, steam leaks, toilets.
- Installs bathroom fixtures.
- Replaces floor tiles, incandescent and fluorescent lamps.
- Paints walls, woodwork, furniture and equipment.
- Performs custodial work.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position.
- Demonstrates regular attendance.
- Accesses and utilizes software programs, including but not limited to training, email, payroll and maintenance management system.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Cleaning Functions:
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, change lights, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards.
- Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds.
- Assure safety during inclement weather to including shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, remove debris from down spouts when clogged, etc.
- Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
- Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment. and removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.).
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience in building and grounds operations.
3. Desire to continue career improvement.
4. Familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory.
5. Ability to read chemical labels.
6. Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS).
7. Ability to initiate and complete work orders.
8. Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 25 per week
