The Reading Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing students' reading skills and fostering a love for literacy. The Reading Specialist will utilize various instructional strategies and assessments to support students' growth in reading proficiency.
Duties
- Assess students' reading abilities and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading strategies into the curriculum.
- Provide targeted interventions for students struggling with reading, including those with special needs or disabilities.
- Design and facilitate professional development workshops for staff on effective reading instruction and classroom management techniques.
- Monitor student progress through regular assessments and adjust instruction as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and strategies for supporting literacy at home.
- Create a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and motivation in reading.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification in Reading Specialist or equivalent credentials.
- Experience in lesson planning focused on literacy education.
- Strong classroom management skills to maintain an effective learning environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in behavior management techniques to support diverse learners in the classroom.
