Reporting to the Center Director, the Teacher will oversee the learning objectives of children and the creation and management of a variety of learning environments and activities that will provide opportunities for children to develop to their fullest potential. Smart Kids CDC teachers work as a team with fellow staff to promote the interests of the children and the school in general.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

• Encourage a positive learning environment for all children within the Center.
• Document and share with parents the important milestones in a child’s day.
• Implement an engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Respect and observe children's interests. Intervene when needed to maintain safety. Enhance children's play with language, toys, and activities.
• Encourage and model social behavior and expectations which are developmentally appropriate.
• Share ideas in planning a daily schedule which provides a balance of activities: quiet/active, indoor/outdoor, fine/gross motor, etc.
• Attending staff meetings, conferences, and workshops.
• Holding regular parent-teacher meetings to address any issues, concerns, or parent complaints.
• Daily cleaning and maintenance of the classrooms and common areas - trash removal and disposal from the classrooms.
• Maintaining state regulations for licensing and sanitation.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and education requirements:

• Previous experience as a Preschool Assistant Teacher.
• Must meet all state Preschool Assistant Teacher requirements for MECK.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) or college degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field.
• Must pass state of NC requirements: fingerprint and criminal background check, TB test, annual physical examination.
• Pediatric First Aid and CPR Training and ITS/SIDS Training or willing to obtain within 6 weeks of hire.
