Job Title: Transportation Specialist
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Transportation Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transportation Specialist partners with internal and external customers to ensure that freight, LTL and small parcel shipments occur on-time, on-schedule and within scope. This role will serve as the liaison between our internal customers, our external customers, vendors and our contracted freight partners. This position will be the first level support for all things transportation and freight. We’re looking for a self-starter who is unafraid to dig into questions and solve problems. This team member will be analytical, driven and resourceful.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Quotes and books LTL, truckload, and international shipments on behalf of multiple customers across 30/ warehouse locations in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment.
- Partners with freight/logistics vendor to oversee the outsourced freight relationship.
- Research customer questions and disputes, looking for common themes and/or issues.
- Partners with Account Managers to provide accurate information to customers.
- Develops and maintains relationships with internal customers to drive excellent customer service to external customers.
- Provides timely and accurate information under tight timelines.
- Tracks/traces in-transit shipments and follow up on any pick-up or delivery exceptions.
- Manages special shipment or delivery requirements, including research on accessorial requirements.
- Communicates directly with multiple customers and vendors for quoting, booking, and exceptions management. Including truckload, LTL, intermodal and dray.
- Maintains excellent written and verbal communication and transparency with customers.
- Serves as internal resource for freight questions from warehouse team.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Strategic Transportation Manager.
“THE PERSON” | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; will accept years of experience in lieu of Degree
- Prior experience in customer service, billing, invoicing, or comparable role
- Previous experience in transportation, freight, LTL, Carrier Sales or Small Parcel shipping preferred
- Experience analyzing, manipulating and presenting data within Excel or PowerBI strongly preferred

PHYSICAL OR MENTAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to see, hear, talk, write, read, stand, walk, bend over, and be alert at all times. The employee is frequently required to use hands to type, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. While infrequent, employee may need to visit warehouse locations in which employee may need to lift, push, and pull up to 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, drive (vehicle), stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
